All India Kisan Congress chairman, Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Saturday demanded renaming of the Aam Aadmi Clinics in Punjab as the same were synonymous to the name of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party.
In a letter to Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit, the Congress leader said that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has renamed the existing health facilities in the State after its own party name.
“The government is renaming the health facilities as the ‘Aam Aadmi Clinic’ along with a picture of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. This is a clear violation of rules and regulations as a government facility cannot be named after any political party,” he said in the letter.
The legislator from Bholath in Kapurthala said that anyone who has a look at the clinics gets an idea that it has something to do with the Aam Aadmi Party instead of being a government run health facility.
“Besides, what is the purpose of putting the Chief Minister’s picture on the boards? This is clearly an attempt to make it look like the health facility provided by the Aam Aadmi Party instead of the Punjab government. Is the Aam Aadmi Party paying for these clinics?,” he asked.
“By using your constitutional power and authority, instructions must be passed to the Punjab government to remove the party name from all the government health facilities all over the State. This is a misuse of government funds. If the party is so keen for its own promotion, it should set up its own clinics instead of naming government health facilities after its own name,” the Congress leader added.
“Besides, just to add, the existing government health infrastructure, which was once amongst the best in the country particularly in the rural areas, is in ruins and this government has not made any effort to revive it. Instead of reviving the existing health infrastructure it is resorting to publicity stunts at the cost of state exchequer. It must be stopped immediately and necessary orders may kindly be passed at the earliest,” he added.
